Adult Softball Rules
A team manager is responsible for registering a completed team roster with the Recreation Office at the time the player fees are paid. At the same time individual signed hold harmless agreements are to be filed.
No player will be added to a roster by phone. Player fees must be paid in person or by mail before the player is eligible to compete, one day prior to league participation.
Each team is required to provide one new ball per game (softballs that were provided upon registration)
ROSTER LIMIT:
15 players per team
ADDING PLAYERS:
The deadline for adding players is approximately three weeks from the beginning of the season.
AGE:
Players must be at least 18 years of age and/or a high school graduate.
FEE REFUND POLICY:
TEAM REGISTRATION - Team registration fees will be refunded in full provided request for refund is filed at least one week prior to the official closing date of registration. Request for refund filed in the last week of registration will result in forfeiture of 25% of team fee. Requests for refund filed after schedules are drawn or league season begins will result in 100% forfeiture of team fee.
Teams must have seven registered players to begin a game. 6:10 and 7:25 p.m. (or ten minutes after the conclusion of the first game) are forfeit times.
An inning shall not be started after one hour and twenty minutes of play.
Four innings (3 1/2 if home team is ahead) shall constitute an official game if halted by weather or darkness.
MERCY RULE:
Women's - 10 run mercy after 5 innings
Men's Modified - 8 run mercy after 5 innings
Men's Slo-Pitch - No mercy rule
HOME RUN RULE:
Men's Slo-Pitch (*2001)
Limit: 5 home runs - after that every ball hit over the fence is a single.CONDUCT:
Umpires are instructed to adhere to strict rules of conduct in this league. Remember, this is a recreation league.
Throwing a bat in anger or disgust will result in immediate expulsion from the game.
Any player, coach or manager who abuses an umpire in any way will be expelled from the game and suspended for a minimum of the remainder of the season. This suspension includes any tournaments held in Saginaw Township. It is possible that the suspension may be for longer than one year.
Fighting will result in immediate expulsion of all involved players from the game.
Any player, coach or manager expelled from a game for any reason may be suspended a minimum of the next two games.
Alcoholic beverages on Saginaw Township Parks property are in violation of township ordinances and such violations are subject to suspension and/or arrest.
Teams are responsible for the behavior of their fans. Fans that, through their actions, interfere with proper conduct and management of the game may cause forfeiture of said game.
INELIGIBLE PLAYER:
Opposing teams must obtain name of player in question. Official has authority to require complete I.D. If player I.D. does not match scoresheet name, game is forfeited. No I.D./player not on roster: Inform scorekeeper (circle name), complete game, I.D./roster will be checked by League Supervisor.
PROTESTS:
Protest will be taken only on rule interpretation. No judgment call protests can be made. For a protest to be valid, the umpire must be informed of the protest by the opposing team before the next pitch. Protest acknowledgment and time should be recorded on the score sheet by the opposing team before the next pitch. Umpires names must appear on the score sheet. Written protest accompanied by $20.00 protest fee must be submitted to the Saginaw Township Recreation Office before 5:00 p.m. on the next working day. The protest will be reviewed by a committee which may include the Recreation Director, League Director and Supervisor of Officials. A valid protest will result in proper action (replay, etc.) and a refund of the protest fee. Game replayed from the point of protest.
BASE LENGTHS:
60 ft. - Modified;
65 ft. - Slo-Pitch.MODIFIED PITCHING RULE:
The ball shall not be outside the pitchers elbow once the ball is past the pitchers hip in either the backward or forward swing.

RAINOUTS:
Game cancellations are not determined until mid-afternoon (4:00 p.m.) after the grounds crew check field playability. Please call the rain-out number after 4:00 p.m. ~ (989) 791-9860.
